Cooking Spice That Burns Fat
It's January, and health is on the mind. We're in search for easy ways to consume less calories, burn more fat and feel generally fitter and lighter.
Apparently, one of the secrets to successful weight loss is cumin. Which is perfect, seeing as it's likely to already be in our spice cupboards.

According to research by Shadid Sadoughi University of medical Sciences in Iran, cumin has been proven to help burn fat at a higher rate.
It's all about cumin's relationship to cholesterol. The spice's plant chemicals are said to prevent cholesterol from being absorbed into our bodies and can help to increase our metabolic rate.
The study involved two groups of women who were given a controlled diet for three months. One group was asked to include 3g of cumin in their diet every day.

The results found that the cumin-eating groups lost, on average, three pounds more that the non-spice group. In addition, high cholesterol readings within the group also fell by 10 points.
So, how can we add cumin into our diet? We asked the GH Food Team for three easy recommendations…
1. Sprinkle cumin on your favourite veggies before roasting – it pairs wonderfully with parsnips, cauliflower, sweet potato and squash.
2. Add cumin and some oil to cooked, drained and dried chickpeas. Toss together with some seasoning and roast until crisp. A great healthy snack!
3. Make your own hummus with our favourite recipe here – or even better, make your own falafels.
